I love blogging!
Blogging gives me an outlet to write and be creative. I’ve been doing it for over 7 years, but I didn’t start making money with it until a few years ago. When I decided to start blogging, I tried to do a lot of it on my own. Well, that might be why it took me this long to make money. I also think it’s because I’m stubborn and think I can do it all on my own. And that’s where the problem happened. I got stuck with the programming. I didn’t want to program, I just wanted a ready-made site with a little bit of tweaking. Today, I am proud to say, I have a few blogs and I ask for help when I get stuck, from my hosting company, my techy friend and Google of course.
Maybe you want to start your own blog. Don’t be afraid. It’s going to be a bit of work, but it will be worth it to see your baby come to life.
There are 3 things you need to build a website. I will explain them a bit more below.
- Domain name
A domain name is the website address so that people can find you. For example, my first website was a free domain name from webs.com. I owned a cottage and rented it out. I created this website www.tinalalonde.webs.com. I no longer have the cottage, but I loved this website because it was beautiful. The disadvantage to free names is that the domain company can advertise on your website and, it doesn’t look professional. I have even seen another cottage for rent on my site.
You can buy your domain name from anyone who sells domain names, but I bought mine from Godaddy because I’m frugal and they have good prices. I paid $0.99 cents the first year.
I have been using Namesilo for domain names because it was easier.
I started using Web Hosting Canada for my hosting. One reason I chose them is because I was tired of paying my hosting company in US funds. This one is in Canadian dollars. They are quick to answer questions online, and you can also call them.
The theme is the layout of the website i.e. the colour, style, buttons. These are accessible when you download wordpress onto your hosting. I know this sounds confusing because it is. I am not going to show you how to start a website because there are TONS of youtube videos online. However, I would like to encourage you to sign up for training with those who have created many websites and have made money from blogging. I have taken courses from these 2 people and I would recommend them because…they know their shit! Sorry, I swore but, I too was frustrated with all the BS out there about how easy it is to create a website.
Is there training out there to help me?
If you want to learn how to blog in a step by step manner and be able to understand what all the lingo is, I recommend these two bloggers.
Blogging your Passion University. Jonathan Miligan is a great teacher. He is passionate about what he does and, he wants to help you succeed. So much so that he offers a TON of free resources online and through his podcast. I listen to his podcast every morning on my way to my day job. Yes, I still have to work because I haven’t made enough yet to quit, and, not sure I want to quit my day job. I am enjoying it right now.
The other blogger I took training with is Start a Mom Blog. Suzie is the owner and she is very easy to listen to. She too has a ton of great resources. She also gives you ideas on what to write about and shows videos of how to set up your blog.
It might look scary, but if you really want to create a blog, just do it. It will be a great way to make money and, make new friends. Trust me.
Here’s to your success.
